Welcome to the online home of DeWinter's
Wood Carvings. Tom participated in the Make A Wish
Foundation's Carving 4 Kids competition at the Reno Hilton on
May 9-12, 2002. If you've viewed the gallery of Tom's work you
may recognize the carving on the left above. It's the mural that
he painted on his office/guest bedroom wall. One of the things
involved with the competition was a "quick carve". The
participants are given an hour and fifteen minutes to carve something
through to completion on each day. He decided to carve the M&M
on Saturday.
Tom uses a variety of wood for his wood carvings,
including cedar, redwood, ash, black walnut and driftwood. It'll
be quite evident to you how much effort Tom puts into the detail
of his work when you get the chance to view some of his art. He
loves to carve wood and as you can see, he's very good at it.
"The wood tells me what it wants to be"
Whether it's a small alligator, a
bed with headboard and footboard or a tall totem pole, it's always
a unique piece that comes to fruition from an image in Tom's creative
cranial matter. Everything from animals to an ice cream cone have
appeared from Tom's shop and yard.
